Frequently Asked Questions

About the Sabbatical

  • If you are a Christian leader carrying the weight of both leadership and health challenges, and you need a season for a whole-person reset, this is for you!

  •   You must be a Christian Leader—in congregational or marketplace ministry, a speaker or artist, an author or songwriter; a person of influence who comes out of the secret place daily to serve and raise the sphere of influence God has given you stewardship over.

  • A retreat is a getaway from. A vacation can wear you out and oftentimes leaves you still needing a vacation. The 30-day sabbatical the Lord has asked us to offer you is a restorative remodel of body, soul, mind, and spirit —-designed to renew and prepare you to go forward in God with vision and vigor —- to rejoin and finish your race that He has set before you.

  • Yes. Good habits and lasting changes take time.

  • Yes. You may bring your like-minded spouse or a blood relative to serve as your companion and assist you during your stay. Please note: by spouse, we affirm the biblical definition of marriage as a covenant between one natural-born man and one natural-born woman, monogamously for life. We are unable to accommodate companions outside of these categories.

  • Faith is central. Each day is built around chapel, Bible study, biblical counseling, and prayer counseling. Every aspect of the sabbatical flows from the authority of Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ.

  • We love Jesus, adhere to His Word, revere the fellowship of believers, and honor the Holy Spirit as the true source of wisdom and healing. We welcome leaders from Christian denominations who hold fast to the Word of God.

  • Yes. You will receive biblical counseling, prayer ministry, and spiritual support throughout your stay. Our focus is discipleship, not evangelism, and everything is grounded in the Word of God.

  • Yes. These are the foundation of our daily rhythm. Every guest participates fully in these spiritual practices. Other spiritual applications will not align with our protocols, teachings, ministries, or core philosophy.

Faith Elements

  • Turnaround Lifestyle is not a medical facility, and we do not diagnose, treat, or cure disease. What we provide is a structured environment for whole-person renewal — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through Christ-centered discipleship, daily wellness routines, the HEROIC Diet, proven practices, and intentional biblical community, we create space for the body to reset, the mind to clear, and the spirit to be strengthened. Many guests discover this season leads to lasting improvements in energy, clarity, health habits, and resilience — outcomes that equip them to return to their calling with strength.

  • All meals follow the HEROIC Diet — a cancer-fighting, anti-inflammatory nutritional protocol. Jennie Lee Riddle designed the HEROIC Diet in her own battle with chronic inflammatory illness and cancer to starve cancer, strengthen immunity, balance hormones, reduce inflammation, and restore resilience. It also supports blood sugar stability, lowers histamine, and promotes whole-body wellness. Guests not only eat according to the HEROIC Diet but also learn to cook this way, so they can carry these habits and skills home.

  • No medical referral is required. However, depending on your health history, we may recommend that you consult your physician before applying to ensure you are ready for a non-clinical wellness environment.

  • Guests experience a comprehensive blend of wellness practices and creative experiences designed to renew body, mind, and spirit. At Studio 7:14, the program base, and within the rhythms of The Old Ruth, participants may experience:

        •    Far Infrared Sauna to promote detoxification, circulation, and cellular repair.

        •    It’s Not Yoga™ movement sessions to restore mobility, strength, and balance.

        •    Fully immersive cooking classes to learn the HEROIC Diet hands-on.

        •    Rooted in Nature field trips that reconnect guests to creation, rhythm, and rest.

        •    Songwriting and art to light up your brain, spark imagination, and awaken creativity — activating neural pathways that lower stress, support immunity, balance mood, sharpen focus, and restore clarity.

        •    Biblical counseling and prayer ministry for alignment, clarity, and healing.

        •    Coaching and discipleship support to translate rest into sustainable life rhythms.

        •    Apothecary and nutrition guidance to reinforce the HEROIC Diet with natural supports.

        •    Whole-body care routines — including dry brushing, mineral scrubs, and therapeutic wraps — to reduce inflammation, support lymphatic flow, and restore vitality.

        •    HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) and additional integrative wellness modalities to strengthen the body’s natural resilience.

Together, these experiences form an immersive sabbatical where physical renewal, spiritual depth, and creativity converge in a Christ-centered environment.

  • Turnaround Lifestyle is not a medical facility, and we do not provide on-site medical services. Guests with existing conditions may attend only if they are stable and under professional care. Those requiring daily medical supervision, acute care, or psychiatric crisis support are not eligible.

However, we do maintain relationships with local medical professionals in the La Porte area. If you need to see a doctor, therapist, or other provider during your stay, those arrangements must be secured prior to arrival, and all associated costs are the guest’s responsibility. Guests with mobility or personal-care needs must bring a companion to assist them throughout their stay.

  • Songwriting and art are woven into the sabbatical because they directly serve the needs of leaders battling inflammation, fatigue, autoimmune conditions, cancer, and burnout. Creative engagement “lights up” multiple regions of the brain at once, producing effects that science continues to affirm:

        •    Reduces inflammation and stress load by lowering cortisol and calming the nervous system.

        •    Supports immune health by improving immune signaling often suppressed by chronic stress.

        •    Stabilizes mood and energy through dopamine and serotonin release, which help regulate hormones and restore resilience.

        •    Restores clarity and focus by activating neuroplasticity, strengthening pathways for memory, executive function, and decision-making.

        •    Balances body rhythms by regulating breathing, heart rate, and digestion through nervous system reset.

        •    Integrates whole-person healing by engaging both logical and creative centers of the brain, helping leaders process, create, and reconnect with their purpose.

When these practices are filled with the Word of God, the effect is multiplied. Scripture calls us to “set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2) and to dwell on “whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy” (Philippians 4:8). This is the renewing of the mind spoken of in Romans 12:2 and the “washing of water by the word” in Ephesians 5:26.

For weary leaders, this marriage of neuroscience and Scripture is doubly potent: the body is rewiring, and the spirit is being renewed. That is why songwriting and art are not optional here — they are part of the way God restores His servants to wholeness.
